Beltaine or Beltane (which is known in the old Irish language as Bel(l)taine or Beltine or in the modern Irish as Bealtaine while in the Scotish Gaelic it is known as Bealltain. (This actually the Gealic name for  the month of May as well as the actual festival). Historically this Gealic festival was celebrated in Ireland, Scotland and the Isle of Man, Bealtaine is a cross-quarter Day and marks the midpoint in the Sun’s progress between the Spring Equinox and the Summer Solstice.  The name derives from the words  Bel - the 'bright one' (the Celtic god)  and the Gaelic word  'teine' meaning fire, giving the name ' Beltaine ', meaning  'bright fire'. http://www.moriasplace.com/festivals/blog.html
