Pendulums
A pendulum is an elegant and very effective dowsing tool and very easy to use, you simply hold it dangling from your dominant hand and ask it a “Yes” or “No” question. The pendulum transforms your intuitive flow of energy into a simple, physical movement, which can be easily interpreted. It’s movement is a direct expression of Spirit; which can assist us in a variety of ways. It can be made of virtually any material, Crystal, Wood, Metals (Gold, Silver, Iron etc.) or even something as simple as a necklace or a ring on a piece of cord, string or chain (think of the ‘old wife’s tale’ of a piece of string and a needle). There is a school of thought that certain types of pendulum should be used for certain types of question; for example; - copper is associated with questions concerning money – but I still hold to the old adage of ‘going with your gut’ and using the pendulum that ‘calls to you’ for the task at hand.
When you receive a new pendulum, take time to cleanse it. It has almost certainly been bombarded with energies throughout its life, being made, being shipped to the shop then being handled by all those who found it was ‘not the right one’ for them and, no doubt, has absorbed a fair amount of mixed or even negative energy along the way. Any of the following techniques are highly effective ways to cleanse your new pendulum - smudge with sage, lavender, cedar, cloves, copal, or any number of other cleansing herbs and resins; leave in direct sun light for a few hours; surround with quartz crystal points, preferably on your Sacred Altar or simply hold it in or under running water (so long as it isn’t like Selanite for example and will dissolve in water).
The first time you use your new pendulum ask it to show you the movement that means “Yes.” Once this movement is clear to you, then ask the pendulum to show you the movement for “No.” The corresponding movements for “Yes” and “No” usually remain consistent, but it doesn’t hurt to check every once in a while. In addition, whilst I find that for the most part I have the same response from all my pendulums, I have had a different response from the odd one or two I’ve used.
Spend some time getting to know your new pendulum. The pendulum has a particular frequency due to its form and the stone of which it’s made. To harmonize the pendulum’s frequency with your own, carry it on your person frequently. The most effective way to harmonize with your pendulum is to place it on your Sacred Altar.
You can use a pendulum to help you to choose an elixir, mineral, or crystal for a client; choose herbs and other components for a medicine bag; read the condition of a person’s chakras; find a good optometrist; decide which car to buy; and so on. I have, in the past used my pendulum to find a missing toy for a child with Autism by simply asking “is the toy in this room?” and then “is the toy in this area” until I reduced the space to an area of about three foot square (which had been checked at least three times previously) to the extreme delight of the child and the relief of one very stressed mother (yes, this is ‘The kid-sitter!); and, for those fans of the T.V. programme Charmed, yes, it is possible to use a pendulum over a list or map (for example) but it won’t violently drop to the paper like a magic magnet has taken hold (it should be that east!) it will simply give your normal response for yes, no or maybe, so the trick is to make sure you word the question in such a specific way that it has to be a yes, no or maybe answer. It is possible to get sets of charts to use in conjuction with your pendulum but it is very easy to make your own anyway.
